Pregnancy discrimination is still common in the workplace, despite laws that protect pregnant women's employment rights. Complaints to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission have increased in the mid-1990s. To protect themselves, women should be knowledgeable about the law and their company's policy.

It is essential that parents refrain from expressing to their children negative feelings about their ex-spouse's new partner. If the children like the new person, a parent's negative feelings will make them feel guilty. Children feel used when a parent plies them for information about the new person.
