Toddlers learn by copying the actions and attitudes of their parents and their older siblings. Imitating others is also a means of socialization for toddlers. Their earliest imitative actions might include waving goodbye, shaking their heads as a form of response and giving hugs and kisses.

Early empathy

Researchers are finding signs of empathetic behavior in children as young as one or two years old. This behavior is usually learned through socialization and by parents who encourage their children to make others feel better. Girls often exhibit this behavior more than boys.
