Children's perceptions of corporal punishment, caretaker acceptance, and psychological adjustment in a poor, biracial Southern Community
Article Abstract:
Perceived harshness and justness of corporal punishments are more strongly associated with poor black and white children's views of caretaker acceptance-rejection than with their psychological adjustments. Poor psychological adjustment results in children who perceive physical punishment as a form of caretaker rejection. The perception of a corporal punishment as very hard may result in psychological maladjustment. These associations are independent of gender, race and social class of children.

Perceived paternal acceptance, paternal involvement, and youths' psychological adjustment in a rural, biracial southern community
Article Abstract:
A research study was conducted in the biracial community of McIntosh County, GA, to investigate if the youth's psychological adjustment is affected by the perceived paternal acceptance-rejection behavior and paternal involvement. Results show that perceived paternal acceptance is associated to both black and white offsprings' psychological adjustment. However, the children's psychological adjustment was found to be unaffected by paternal involvement.
