Psychometric characteristics of a multidimensional measure to assess impairment: the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale
Article Abstract:
Children and adolescents with higher scores on the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS) are more likely to have poor social relationships and problems with the law. The CAFAS considers various aspects of functioning of youth to assess any impairment. A correlation between CAFAS measures and ratings given by parents, staff and youth themselves shows that this measure is valid. Also, youth from lower income families score higher than those from higher income families, as lack of required facilities affects their performance at school and outside.

Insurance coverage and mental health service use by adolescents with serious emotional disturbance
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted of the links between insurance coverage, need and mental health services in adolescents with serious emotional disturbance. The results indicate a strong relationship between serious emotional disturbance and use of mental health services. Services use was observed more with Medicaid than either private or no insurance. These findings suggest that the regulation of insurance benefits should be based on level of need rather than on arbitrary limits.
