Article Abstract:

Opposition to women clergy stems from the traditional values of churches, and especially those of the Catholic Church. The number of women enrolled in seminaries has increased from 10% in 1972 to 30% in 1991. The ways in which women clergy have added to church services are examined.

New York Jets defensive end Dennis Byrd suffered from paralysis from the neck down due to a defensive tackle in a 1992 football game. Byrd, a 270 lb. player, grew up on an Oklahoma prairie in a strongly religious family. Byrd credits the power of prayer with his miraculous recovery.
