Stepfamilies from the stepfamily's perspective
Article Abstract:
Stepfamilies have unique characteristics that place them outside the confines of the nuclear family. This can be gleaned from the different perspectives of stepfamily members. Stepmothers are dissatisfied with their role and their performance of this role, with the most positive of them unclear about the steprole. Stepfathers, on the other hand, do what they think is best for their stepchildren, with some regretting that they are not closer to their stepchildren. Children in stepfamilies view stepparents' behavior differently, either as being supportive or bribing them to win their affection.

Stepfamily policy from the perspective of a stepfamily organisation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine ways in which legislation and policy recognize factors affecting remarriage and stepfamilies both as private and public concerns. Changes in policy and legislation should consider informed research and views related to the rights and responsibilities that any family has for dependent children. The changes should also accommodate family-related restrictions, such as the modification of family names. Moreover, policy makers are urged to re-examine two-parent household policies to evaluate their impact and implications for stepfamilies.

Stepfamilies from the child's perspective: from stepfamily to close relationships
Article Abstract:
An investigation of how children living in stepfamily households describe their families and their perceptions of their relationships with the new adults in the household reveals interesting new insights. Their definitions of their stepfamilies do not explain the family of these children, which they often described as larger than the 'nuclear stepfamily.' Their relationships with the new people in their stepfamily households can be characterized as 'close relationships,' as these are explained by friendship, and not by family or parenthood.
