The marital dynamics of conflict over the division of labor

Article Abstract:

Researchers have looked at the link between spouses' discontent with the allocation of household tasks, conflict interaction patterns and subsequent outcomes. It was suggested that an absence of conflict over the division of household tasks may not indicate that no conflict is present, but that conflict is not expressed openly. It was found that couples often show demand/withdraw and distributive interactions when they become more concerned about the allocation of household tasks. This behaviour can lead to more destructive conflict outcomes.
