An introduction to the analysis of paired hazard rates in studies of the family
Article Abstract:
Paired hazard rates analysis methods, such as Cusick log-rank statistic, Clayton-Oakes model and strafied analysis, were used to investigate patterns of mortality among husbands and wives. The study was based on 1,031 samples of married couples from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES I) and the NHANES I Epidemiologic Follow-Up Study. The results revealed significant deviations in the estimates of the association parameter relative to the husband's age. Cusick's log-rank statistic and the Clayton-Oakes estimator were also found to yield conflicting results.
