The retreat from marriage: its effect on unmarried children's exchange with parents
Article Abstract:
Interdependent relationships between unmarried adult children and parents are analyzed. Unmarried children living outside their parents' home neither provide less assistance nor receive more help than married siblings but are significantly less likely to rely on their parents in times of emergency. Unmarried children tend to live with their parents and this delay in marriage, similar to high incidence of divorce, results in greater responsibility for parents to look after their single children.

Gender differences in parent-child coresidence experiences
Article Abstract:
A study shows that the relationship between coresident parents and their adult children remains unaffected by gender differences. Although, daughters do more housework and sons provide more finance, the parent-child relations remain largely independent of such exchanges. However, daughters have more stable coresidence experiences and relations with their mothers. Relations with the mother are more positive and significant for both sons and daughters as compared to relations with the father.

Household labor in intergenerational households
Article Abstract:
Adult children's performance of household chores was evaluated based on reports by both parents and children. Adult children were found to do more chores in one-parent than two-parent families and had more responsibilities as they grew older. Daughters performed more housework than sons and were more aware of household needs. Although adult children performed extra housework, they also generated extra chores by living with their parents.
