The monograph in European ethnology
Article Abstract:
Ethnologists have successfully adapted their methodology to the study of modern societies, such as France, by choosing small social groups for fieldwork. The detailed study of particular customs and practices makes generalization from micro to macro scales possible. However, ethnologists studying their own society must make special efforts to avoid the two extremes of making themselves the object of study or uncritically reporting the words of those studied.
