The Atlantic paper chase
Article Abstract:
The speculative approach adopted by American curators has led US universities to amass a wealth of foreign literary material, with director of the University of Texas' Ransom Humanities Center Thomas Staley claiming that Texas has become the archive of record for modern English writers. Curator of manuscripts at the British Library Sally Brown agrees with American claims that lack of foresight allowed modern writers' archives to slip out of British hands. However Harold Pinter has deposited his personal archives with the British Library and Brown is working to persuade other writers to do likewise.
