Article Abstract:

A personal narrative is presented, describing the shame felt after shopping and the perceived need to hide the evidence. Techniques are proposed to help avoid the discovery of purchases, including spreading the cost over different payment methods, and disguising new articles as dry cleaning items. Some of the psychological aspects of this guilt are identified.

Issues concerning the growing use of artificial beauty treatments and cosmetic surgery are presented. Since 1992, cosmetic surgery treatments have increased by 153%, with a 50% increase in the two years to 1998.
