Think of pockets as windows

Article Abstract:

Dressmakers can use pocket windows to visualize pockets for their dresses and design them in such a way that they accent the dress. A cutout 'window' can be used as a pattern for dressmakers and this pattern can be used over and over again just by changing the outer design.
