France's Loire Valley combines a northerly location and an Atlantic climate, conditions that lead to wide variations in vintage, quality and style. The best growing season for the region in several years was 2002, which resulted in an abundance of excellent wines from Sauvignon Blanc.

France's longest river the Loire runs through central France winding its way through dozens of appellations, some of which rely on well-known grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, and other esoteric varieties such as Romorantin and Grolleau.
