Critics should be critical

A Jul 31, 1996, column critiquing Clos Du Val's wines caused some readers to object to a wine writer making any negative comments at all about a vintner. A critic must provide accurate and honest information, both for the sake of the consumer and the winery being critiqued.

Judging futures, barrels and brettanomyces
Article Abstract:
It is not always possible to forecast the eventual quality of a finished wine that has been aged. Barrel tastings will often give a good indication, but not always. Brettanomyces, a spoilage yeast, is also discussed.
