Geest will not sell banana operations despite poor results
Article Abstract:
Geest of the UK, a fresh and chilled produce group, has reported a fall in pre tax profit to just 4 million pounds sterling in the 26 weeks to 01 July, after exceptional items. However it has denied rumours that it plans to sell its banana operations. Windward Island banana prices in Europe have been affected by Hurricane Debbie, although the group's Costa Rican operations saw improvements. Sales in the prepared foods division increased to 91.3 million pounds sterling.

Hillsdown profits slightly lower than expected
Article Abstract:
Hillsdown Holdings of the UK, a food manufacturer, has reported pre tax profit down 13% to 57.6 million pounds sterling mostly due to the disposal of Maple Leaf Foods, its Canadian operation. The proceeds of the Maple Leaf sale are expected to be reinvested outside the UK. The company's ambient and chilled food operations saw profits rise and there were improvements in canning operations and exports.
