Joseph Gallo, brother of vintners Ernest and Julio, will not be allowed to market his cheeses under the brand name Gallo Cheese. A long-time family feud involving inheritance money and a portion of the winery revenues has pitted Joseph against his brothers.

Lost grapes of California

Benziger, a fine-wine unit of Glen Ellen winery, is using such unusual grapes as Inzolia, Valdeguis and Trousseau to make new wines. These little-known varietals are being sold for about $12 a bottle.
