Piedmont wines are rated on a scale of one to 100, with tasting notes provided for top wine picks and best values for $15 dollars and under. A 1993 Gaja Barbaresco Sori Tilden at $140 a bottle is rated 94, and a 1995 Renato Ratti Dolcetto-d'Alba at $13 is rated 89.

Piedmont is generally known for its Barolo and Barbaresco wines, but its Dolcetto has been the best wine of its recent vintages, with the Barbera also very good. The 1993 Renato Ratti Dolcetto d'Alba is the editor's choice selection.
