New York's quiet success with Pinot Noir

Vinifera Wine Cellars in Hammondsport, NY, is the first winery outside California and Oregon to produce an excellent Pinot Noir. This Burgundian grape is the most difficult to cultivate. Vinifera's 1988 is now available at about $16 retail.

California Pinot Noir worth the wait

Very good Pinot Noir is now being made in California, and it ages well in a similar manner to Cabernet. The 1976 Beaulieu Vineyard Carneros Reserve is an excellent wine, and later years are also very good.
