Ready meals market set to grow beyond 2000

A report by ERC Statistics International shows that Europeans are choosing processed foods over unprocessed products. Spanish, German, UK and French convenience food markets have seen the most growth, although Belgium spends the most on convenience foods. The UK has the largest per capita consumption of ready meals and chilled meals are also popular in the UK.

Greek ready meals growth
Article Abstract:
The Greek ready meals market is starting to improve, with domestic production increasing since 1987 at a rate of 32.3% a year. Imports have also risen and consumption was more than 5,500 t in 1993. Advertising expenditure was up nearly 138%. Supermarkets represent about 70% of all ready meal sales, with the remainder accounted for by the catering sector.

Greek food adspend falls
Article Abstract:
Food and drink advertising expenditure in Greece fell 28% in 1994 according to figures from Media Services. This is mostly becuase the dairy, confectionery and alcoholic drinks sectors reduced their advertising expenditure. Expenditure is expected to rise in the first quarter of 1995.
