Van Melle acquires Klene and Wybert
Article Abstract:
Dutch confectionery producer Van Melle has made a bid for all the shares of sugar confectionery and liquorice producer Klene, reports Dutch confectionery publication Consudel. If the bid succeeds, Van Melle will be paying some HF1110m (??49.9m) for Klene. Both companies are listed on the Dutch stock exchange. In addition, Van Melle has signed an agreement with Gaba International in Switzerland for the takeover of its throat lozenges under the brand name of Wybert. If the acquisitions go through as planned, Van Melle will boost its annual sales by HF193m to HF1984m. Klene last year achieved sales of HF162.4m and recently acquired NL Pharma, a Dutch producer of sugarfree liquorice with sales of some HF119m. Wybert generates annual turnover of some HF112m, more than half of which comes from the Netherlands, the rest from Germany and Switzerland.

Auer-Blaschke sold for a schilling
Article Abstract:
Austrian confectionery and bakery group Auer-Blaschke has been acquired by Benelux-based Continental Bakeries for a token schilling. The transaction includes production facilities in Spillern and Traiskirchen and the services of 150 employees. However, Continental plans to invest approximately Os40m (?? 2.9m) in modernising the plant in 1999, and will also assume Auer-Blaschke's debts of at least Os100m

Cadbury buys Craven Keiller
