When faults become virtues
Article Abstract:
A review of the factors responsible for the purity and character of Alsace wines, going deeper than the varietal labeling of grapes used is presented. The goal of Alsace wine makers to enhance and preserve the expression of the vineyard from harvest to bottle depending on the faults of the land of their vineyards, to capture its beauty in the character of their wines is highlighted.

Extremes in Alsace
Article Abstract:
The Alsace vintages on offer from 2001 through 2004 vary dramatically in style and the vintage in 2003 is the exaggerated and problematic, reflecting extraordinarily hot weather in the normally cool climate in northeastern France. Record-high temperatures and drought were problematic for the wines of Alsace in 2003 but outstanding 2002s and remarkable 2001s are on the market.
