Wyandot: from tragedy to triumph!
Article Abstract:
Wyandot Inc., a co-packer and private-label manufacturer of salty snack products, has rebuilt operations quickly at its facility in Marion, OH, which was destroyed by a fire in Nov. 1, 1996. Seven months after the fire, a $21-million 60,000-sq-ft state-of-the-art facility was started up and attained full production capacity within a year. The company employed a design/build arrangement instead of the normal design/bid/build. The management turned tragedy into an advantage by defining a corporate strategy as the plant is built. An engineer said they did not just replace the plant, they improved it. Despite the fast-track schedule, new technologies in such areas as processing and packaging have been incorporated across plant design.

Pork processor chills out with integrated cooling system
Article Abstract:
OSI, a meat processing company, has a Frick refrigeration system installed by York's refrigeration group, giving it an integrated monitoring system. A lower-level room has seven Frick ammonia-driven rotary screw compressors, featuring microprocessor control, is similar to other OSI facilities around the world. SL/EFC evaporative condensers from Imeco, made particularly for the facility, provide maximum fan efficiency for low energy consumption. Chances of ammonia leakage is limited by external refrigeration valves and massive piping systems.
