Confirmation: chromium levels in serum, hair, and sweat decline with age

Article Abstract:

Chromium levels in serum, hair and sweat decline with age, according to a study by Davis et al. in the United Kingdom, the first study using reliable analytical methods in a large number of subjects that has shown a marked, continuous decline of chromium in three tissues. The authors surmise the major reason for the decline is poor nutrition, primarily the consumption of too much refined carbohydrates. Several studies of chromium metabolism support this opinion. There is no answer to the question of what other factors may be involved.

Effect of chromium on body composition and weight loss

Article Abstract:

Chromium may help to increase lean body mass and decrease percentage body fat which may lead to weight loss in humans. It is an essential nutrient in regulating carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. The response of chromium on weight loss depends upon diet, amount, duration and type of supplemental chromium and it appears to be only a small contributing factor compared with exercise and a balanced diet.

Interaction of chromium with insulin: a progress report

Article Abstract:

The biological role of trivalent chromium is relevant to three areas of metabolism. There is an interaction of chromium with the thyroid, high chromium concentrations in liver fractions containing nucleic acids and, thirdly, protection by the element against heat induced conformational change.
