Constance V. Kies (1934-1993)
Article Abstract:
Constance V. Kies was an outstanding pioneer among her peers in the field of nutritional science. She was gifted, respected as a scientist, able to pursue her doctorate, receive grants, engage in research, write for prestigious publications and become a full professor at a time when few other women were able to accomplish all these activities and achieve success in all. Her research especially on nutritional needs for men and women regardless of race or ethnic background attracted international attention. Cancer was to deprive nutrition science of one of its most gifted members.

Mattie Rae Spivey Fox (1923-1988)
Article Abstract:
Mattie Rae Fox was born in north central Texas in 1923. She earned her bachelor's degree at Texas Women's University in 1943 and accepted a Senior Research Fellowship at Iowa State University in 1945. She also earned a master of science degree in nutrition. Fox was a nutritional analyst at the USDA while she earned her PhD at George Washington University. She was also a Fellow of the American Institute of Nutrition. She died in 1988.

Daphne Anderson Roe, 1923-1993
Article Abstract:
Nutritionist, physician and dermatologist Daphne Anderson Roe died from a vehicular accident in Ovid, NY, on Sep. 22, 1993. Roe, who was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in London, UK, published over 200 studies including nine books and over 60 book chapters and was also a noted researcher, journal editor and reviewer. Roe taught at the Cornell University and often conducted public discussions for the nutrition community and health groups.
