Anthony Newley
Article Abstract:
Actor, singer, composer and writer Anthony Newley left school at 14 and began work as an office boy in an insurance company. He was able to obtain free tuition at the Italia Conti Stage School, where he was spotted by producer Geoffrey de Barkus and obtained the leading role in the 1947 children's film serial 'The Adventures of Dusty Bates.' He then began obtaining other roles, and was given a contract by the Rank Organisation. He toured the UK with his own variety show in 1956, and became a pop star as a result of his role in the 1959 musical film 'Idle on Parade.'
