Restaurateur Roberta Gosman Donovan considers a Long Island shingle-style house as her most precious possession. The house, especially the kitchen, is of the 1880s architectural style of Stanford White. She renovates the house paying particular attention to its original design.

The right light

Maurice Isaac and Ellen Coster Isaac added a sliding glass door, windows and a skylight to give the kitchen in their Long Island Victorian farmhouse more light. The kitchen also includes glass-fronted cabinets, a granite island and a hearth made of brick.
