The Navajo Health and Nutrition Survey: research that can make difference

Article Abstract:

The Navajo Health and Nutrition Survey (NHNS) was conducted to provide the Indian Health Service and tribal governments with data on planning health promotion, disease prevention and clinical treatment services for the people of the Navajo Nation. The NHNS is an extensive research based on a representative sample of the Navajo population. The findings from this survey and their implications on health and nutrition research in the future are discussed.

Old and new substrates in clinical nutrition

Article Abstract:

Applications of old and new substrates in clinical nutrition are discussed. These include lipid nutrition substrates which are proven to affect the phospholipid composition of cell membranes to influence functions such as enzyme activities and transport-reception functions. Another is the new protein substrate, taurine which can stabilize membrane potential and promote calcium transport and calcium binding to membranes.
