Free fatty acids in exercising Arabian horses fed two common diets
Article Abstract:
The serum free fatty acid profiles of Arabian horses fed with corn or alfalfa were determined at rest and during exercise. Results showed that basal fatty acid concentration, as well as preprandial and postprandial serum fatty acid levels, was not significantly different between corn- or alfalfa-fed horses. However, alfalfa-fed horses exhibited significantly elevated fatty acid levels during exercise. Further investigations on the role of diet on the lipemic activity at rest and during exercise are suggested.
