High maternal body weight and pregnancy outcome
Article Abstract:
Studies identifying the optimal weight for women wishing to become pregnant and the healthiest pattern of maternal weight gain during pregnancy are scarce. Results of a large study conducted in Sweden confirmed evidence of adverse perinatal outcomes among infants of obese pregnant women. Data from famine studies have shown the effects of acute nutritional deprivation on fetal growth.

Body weight and mortality
Article Abstract:
The body mass index (BMI), which indicates relative fatness and is not necessarily correlated with height, is currently used as the standard criterion for defining desirable weight. However, in terms of longevity, the optimal BMI still needs to be determined. Those who are overweight or underweight in relation to standard BMI ranges may have a potential for increased mortality.
