Iron transport across biologic membranes

Article Abstract:

Organisms have develop a variety of strategies for solubilizing iron and transporting it into cells since it is a toxic substance in excess. Various mechanisms regulate transport, as well, chelating compounds are produced to detoxify extracellular and intercellular iron. Specifically, the study examines yeast iron transport and discovery of the first mammalian transmembrane iron transporter.
