Faith D'Aluisio has written an anecdotal essay, accompanied by photographs by Menzel Peter, about the exigencies and conundrums of about 30 families' culinary life. In each instance, the family was photographed along with their haul, including foodstuffs the family buys, grow themselves, or barter for, plus restaurant and fast-food meals.
