The role of radiologic methods in assessing body composition and related metabolic parameters
Article Abstract:
Nutritionists could provide improved care to their patients with metabolic problems and diseases by using radiologic techniques for determining body composition. Studies found that various direct methods were more effective than traditional procedures. The new methods include computerized tomography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging, single- and dual-photon absorptiometry, quantitative computed tomography, dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, and neutron inelastic scattering. The high cost of these procedures prevents their widespread use.
