The vanilla of Tahiti

Article Abstract:

Tahiti grows some of the finest vanilla beans in the world. The beans come from an exotic climbing orchid that grows in the tropics. A brief history of the world migration of the bean is presented. Recipes for vanilla bean ice cream, vanilla sugar and vanilla essence are offered.

The pepitas of Mexico

The pepitas, or pumpkin seeds, sold in supermarkets in the US come from Mexico, China or Greece. They are relatively inexpensive, and have a subtle nutty flavour.
