Article Abstract:

Old Route 2, extending from Bangor, ME, to Burlington, VT, takes a traveler across the heart of northern New England. It features great scenic beauty but it is also a worker's road, with logging trucks and paper mills. A three-day trip along the 422 miles is described.

Sandy Bogert's job for the New Hampshire Audubon Society is to watch a tree on Lake Umbagog, which is the only bald eagle nesting site in the state. The eagles recently made a reappearance at the site forty years after the last ones had nested there.
