Troops coming home at the end of World War II were greeted with celebrations. The return to civilian life would be a difficult transition for many former soldiers. World War II had profoundly affected their lives.

American service men performed under great stress during World War II. Their motivation came about from pride in their units, approval of their peers, and the fact that the US was fighting for its very existence.
