The Westinghouse contests is open to high-school students, who compete for scholarship prizes. Many of the projects that are submitted have potential for widespread applications. Third-place winner Matthew David Graham, for example, came up with a sensor that detects ice build-up on aircraft.

Hoops Hall: visitors get into the action at the Basketball Hall of Fame

The Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, has three floors of sports memorabilia, photos, videos and movies. It also offers the Spalding shoot-out court, where visitors can aim at 15 baskets, and the jump test.
