A female immigrant to New England relates how she discovered and learned to love the inherent sweetness of the crop roots of New England. Crop roots such as rutabags, turnips and parsnips may be braised, roasted, baked, boiled or mashed to bring out their sweet taste.

Nostalgia has been dismissed by the intellectual elite for hindering Progress, but nostalgia has a valid psychological basis that has been studied since the World War I, that of offering a consoling haven for the mind in times of great stress.
