Molecular modelling and NMR studies of the caffeine dimer

Article Abstract:

NMR studies of caffeine-like molecules along with molecular modelling show that caffeine molecules tend to stack together in parallel. Even the caffeine dimer may exist in nine different conformations. This was confirmed by measurements of the nuclear Overhauser enhancements. Stacking of caffeine dimers could explain the unusual dose-response properties of caffeine.
