Knockout at Nashville

Article Abstract:

The army of Union Gen. George H. Thomas defeated those of Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood in the Battle of Nashville during the Civil War which lasted from 1861-1865. Thomas' army of 49,000 men devised a plan to confuse Hood's 23,000 soldiers by attacking them and forcing them to abandon their posts.

War begins at Bull Run

Article Abstract:

The Battle of Bull Run marked the start of the American Civil War. The Northern, or Union, forces were soundly beaten by the Southern, or Confederate, army in the battle. It would take many more bloody battles like Bull Run before the war would come to an end.

High tide at Gettysburg

Article Abstract:

The Battle of Gettysburg marked a turning point in the American Civil War. During the battle, a Union army under Gen. George Meade managed to repulse a Confederate invasion of Pennsylvania. Gettysburg was the first major victory for the Union forces.
