Article Abstract:

In the early 18th century Mary Peck, a Rehoboth, MA, housewife, discovered she could make bogus five-pound notes by impressing them on wet muslin and the applying them to blank paper. Her counterfeiting went on for years before she was discovered. She was acquitted for lack of evidence at her trial.

The hungry hero

Article Abstract:

Egg merchant Louis Bouchard of Fall River, MA, became a hero when he discovered a package lying on the town trolley tracks on Oct 23, 1894. Believing the contents to be sausages, he ate them. It turned out to be dynamite intended to blow up the trolley.

The day it rained fish

Article Abstract:

Fish fell from the sky in Olneyville, RI, on May 15, 1900. The most likely cause of the fish storm was a tornado that may have sucked fish from lakes and ponds and dropped them over the land.
