Article Abstract:
The Navy began a $12-million renovation of the 'USS Constitution' in 1992, in preparation for the ship's 200th birthday in 1997. Decayed areas of the wooden ship, nicknamed 'Old Ironsides' because of its strength, were replaced with live-oak timber, the original material.

The USS Potomac, once the floating hideaway of Pres Franklin D. Roosevelt, has ben restored to its original splendor by the Port of Oakland, CA. Now a National Historic Landmark, it will soon be opened to the public at Oakland's Jack London Square.
