Article Abstract:

Glazed roof tiles are both decorative and practical. They are weather resistant; moss and lichen-resistant; easy to lay; consistent in colour and can be used for vertical hanging. Glazed tiles are used more in Europe than the UK. Tiles are produced in 2 ways: 'engobe' or once-fired where the tile is pressed, colour sprayed and then fired or gloss is applied after firing. Glazed tiles need to be handled carefully to prevent chipping. Crazing may occur which does not affect the durability of the tile.
