Article Abstract:
The patent system, which was established to facilitate the growth of technology and the dissemination of knowledge, has ended up short circuiting its own purpose. The government's copyright system is virtually handing over control of knowledge to a select few which is dangerous and unfair.

Most of the global changes have been wrought by decisions made in power centers such as Wall Street or the United Nations. These changes' impact on cultures and environment have, so far, been largely negative: loss of cultural and biological diversity.
