Law? What law?
Article Abstract:
The Zimbabwean government has taken firm action against the privately owned Sunday newspaper the Standard, which reported that 23 army officers and soldiers had been arrested in Dec 1998 for planning a coup against the government of Robert Mugabe. Ray Choto, the reporter who wrote the story, was arrested by the police, while editor Mark Chavunduka was seized by military intelligence officers. Both men have now been charged under the Law and Order (Maintenance) Act and released on bail. This case has highlighted concern about Mugabe's dictatorial approach.
