The case of photographer William Mumler in 1869 attracted national attention. He was arrested for fraud after claiming his photos captured the images of the spirits of dead relatives with their living subjects. He was acquitted because it could not be proved how exactly the photos were faked.

The Phantom P-40

Writer Curt Norris has been researching a 1942 World War II incident for the past fifty years. American pilots shot down a P-40 with outdated markings, thinking it was flown by a Japanese. It was actually being flown by an American try to escape the Japanese-held island of Mindanao.
