Ben Wisenfield owned a Montreal glove-manufacturing firm. The sympathetic and kindly retiree found fulfilling work in the woodshop of a rehabilitation centre for deaf and handicapped children. His new career earned him recognition and he received the Canada Volunteer Award in 1991.

Being a normal child of mentally retarded parents poses difficulties when the the child tries to form friendships and interact socially. Mental retardation is rarely inherited, and since forced sterilization is illegal, many retarded parents are having normal children.

Contemporary irony is a countercharge partially to the growth of hypocrisy in private life, where feelings have come to draw remorselessness and frequently insincere concern. Irony also serves as a defense against pompousness and self-seriousness.
