The traditional diet of Mediterranean people is considered as the most healthful due to its low cholesterol and saturated fat but high carbohydrate content. Changes, prosperity and the healthful aspects of the Cretan diet was the focus of the fiftieth anniversary celebration of its study held on April 1997.
