The memory tree

Article Abstract:

A man likens the memory of his family's butternut tree to the memory of dead loved ones. Their memories become more valuable than when they were alive. Many butternuts in Vermont succumbed to the butternut canker, a little known fungus, which first appeared in the state in 1983.

A novice mountain climber discovered happiness when she went up Mount Washington with a married couple in June. They climbed for five hours and were rewarded by the sight of the absolute summit and its buildings. She skipped the 4-hr descent trek by using the railway.
