The non-indigenous species (NIS) have gained footholds in every state and territory, threatening ecosystems and causing extinction of some native species and they cost the US billions to control. Snakefish, Burmese pythons, round goby, sea lamprey, killer algae, fire ant, purple loosestrife and spotted knapweed are some of the NIS that have caused disastrous changes in ecosystems from the Great Lakes to the Pacific Northwest.
